Stanley Steet Carpark - Queenstown
Our civil construction team has recently wrapped up work on the Stanley Street Carpark in Queenstown - a new public parking space designed to make it easier for people to access the town centre, whether they’re visiting, working, or heading into town for the day.
The carpark sits on Stanley Street in the heart of Queenstown and has been designed to improve access to the town centre. It will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week and provides 131 vehicle spaces, including three accessible parks, provision for up to 13 future EV charging bays, 21 cycle parks, and three pay stations, helping meet the growing demand for parking close to the CBD.
The project began with site preparation works, including topsoil stripping and minor earthworks, to create a solid foundation for the new carpark. During these early stages, archaeological findings were identified on site. Work was managed carefully, with all required processes followed and the appropriate parties engaged, allowing the project to progress in a respectful and compliant manner.
Managing stormwater was an important part of the job. New drainage infrastructure was installed across the site, including two large soakpits fitted with stormfilter filtration devices to manage surface runoff and improve water quality before discharge. As part of the early works, utility ducting was installed for new street lighting services, security cameras, future EV charging, and to allow for future-proofing of additional services.
From there, the team carried out full pavement construction, carefully preparing the subgrade and building up the pavement layers before completing asphalt surfacing to deliver a smooth, durable finish designed to stand up to daily use over the long term.
The team also constructed new footpaths and pedestrian connections, making it safer and easier for people to move through the carpark and connect with nearby streets. Cycling facilities were incorporated into the design to support active transport and provide secure, convenient options for cyclists. The finishing touches included pavement marking, signage, and installation of the pay stations, creating a clear, easy-to-use layout for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.
With the site located in a busy part of town, the team carefully managed traffic and site access throughout construction, working closely with stakeholders to minimise disruption while keeping everyone moving safely.
The completed Stanley Street Carpark now provides a well-organised and durable parking option that supports Queenstown’s growing town centre and makes getting in and out of the CBD that little bit easier for everyone.
